Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Owing to the technological impact of our Centre of Excellence for Tribology towards energy efficiency and conservation of natural sources, we will contribute to the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals defined in 2030 Agenda by the United Nations Organization [UNO18]:

Ensure access to water and sanitation for all

Green lubricants and in particular water as lubricant will contribute to improving water quality by reducing pollution and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials (sub-goal 6.3).

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy

The design of efficient and functional friction devices will contribute to improvement in energy efficiency (sub-goal 7.3).

Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

Facility monitoring and maintenance as well as new materials and lubricants will upgrade infrastructure and hence contribute to sustainable, resource-use efficiency and clean technologies and industrial processes (sub-goal 9.4).

Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Sustainable Cities and Communities (sub-goal 11.2: By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons).

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Responsible Consumption and Production (sub-goal 12.2: By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources; sub-goal 12.5: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse).

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. (sub-goal 14.1) By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution

Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

The multi-stakeholder partnerships in our Centre will enhance knowledge sharing, thus contribute to international co-operation on science, technology and innovation (sub-goal 17.6).
