Award for Research Excellence: AC2T research GmbH succeeds at the Innovation Award 2025/26

Wiener Neustadt, April 10, 2026 – As part of this year’s Innovation Award 2025/26 by ecoplus, outstanding research and development projects were once again recognized. Among the award winners is Marko Piljevic from AC2T research GmbH.

In the category “Innovative Technical Solutions” he impressed with the project “Eco-Tribology for Air and Space: The Green MXenes Revolution.” The aim of the project is to develop novel lubricants based on so-called MXene materials, which can be used particularly in the aerospace sector. This approach promises a significant improvement in the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of technical systems.

With the Innovation Award, ecoplus annually honors forward-looking, application-oriented research achievements, thereby sustainably strengthening the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the business and technology hub of Lower Austria.

The award highlights the leading role of AC2T research GmbH in the field of tribology, as well as its contribution to the development of environmentally friendly high-performance technologies.

On the occasion of the award, Marko Piljevic expressly thanks all project partners for their excellent collaboration, in particular Dr. Manel Rodriguez Ripoll (AC2T research GmbH), Prof. Carsten Gachot, Dr. Edoardo Marquis, and Dr. Pierluigi Bilotto (Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development, Research Unit of Tribology, TU Wien), as well as Prof. Markus Valtiner and Dr. Markus Ostermann (Applied Interface Physics Group, TU Wien), along with the many other contributors who supported the success of the project in various ways.

He also extends his gratitude to the CEST Centre for Electrochemistry and Surface Technology.

Furthermore, the authors thank the “Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich m.b.H.” for their support within the framework of the FTI PhD Funding Programme (FTI22-D-018).
